Light Church has a diverse team of Leaders that look after Church, we believe the church thrives with good and godly leadership throughout the church and we are thrilled to have gifted men and women who serve Light Church Hull.

We have an overall leadership team (the Bible call these ‘Elders’) who oversee the whole church. In addition, we have group of leaders who are responsible for different areas of church life (the Bible calls these 'Deacons').

Phil and Debs

Phil & Deb are from Hull, after working and living away from Hull, they returned in 1993 with a newfound faith in Jesus. They have two grown up children Luke and Hannah who is married to Cameron.   They have been in Church leadership for many years serving the city with a passion for the Gospel and a heart for the poor and young people.  Phil and Deb love to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit and are faith filled for everyone to be equipped to move in Gods power.   They are both fun loving and outgoing, spending as much time as they can with people.   They also founded Shine Relief Trust in Malawi Africa 2008 and are experienced in leading overseas mission trips and often travel overseas.  They are so excited to be part of this Leadership team for Light Church and can’t wait to see what God will do.

Chinasa
Chinasa is a passionate and devoted follower of Christ, originally from Nigeria. Two years ago, she moved to England to pursue a Master’s degree in International Law, driven by a desire to grow academically and make a meaningful impact through her work.
Before relocating, Chinasa served faithfully in her local church in Nigeria as a member, and later as the leader of the worship team. Her love for God and heart for service continued in England, where she became part of Jubilee Church Hull. There, she actively served in the worship ministry and was also involved in children and youth work.

Chinasa has experienced the overwhelming and reckless love of God, a love that comes from being saved and walking in deep intimacy with Him. She lives with the strong conviction that Jesus is the Light of the world, and holds firmly to the truth that “whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Her life is a reflection of that light, guided by faith, grounded in love, and committed to serving God with her whole heart.

Luke & Kudzi

Luke and Kudzi have been married since 2012 and are raising 2 sons, Judah & Joshua. They lead Inside Out Rehab which works to see individuals living free from addiction and its effects. They are passionate about seeing individuals free in Jesus Christ.

Luke and Kudzi believe that the Gospel is good news and the solution to the issues we all face. Jesus died to bring us back to Father God and they are sold out to seeing people encounter Jesus in life-changing ways. They both have deep conviction for prayer, worship & pursuing the Presence of God and discipleship.

Having met Jesus and receiving His gift of grace, Luke, Kudzi, Judah & Joshua are excited to be part of Light Church and believing for revival in the City of Hull so that the people they serve would experience the same life transforming gift.

Ed & Sarah

Ed & Sarah are an awesome husband and wife team with two beautiful children and have been Christians for many years. They both grew up in Christian homes, being members of a brilliant church with great youth work. This has developed a passion in both of them to see children and young people learn from a young age about Jesus and to encourage them to come to have a lifelong faith. They have helped lead at Christian youth camps in the past, and more recently, have both been an active part of the kids and youth work at Jubilee Church, Hull. They both have been through painful times in their lives, leading to struggles and questioning elements of faith. However, during these times, God has remained faithful throughout and put people in place to support them and remind them that He is in control.

Ed and Sarah are both excited to be part of the team at Light Church and are looking forward to seeing Jesus impact the local community. They both feel God has called us to get alongside people who have been through similar difficult experiences and use us to help change people's lives.

Ian

Ian is part of the leadership team at Light Church.  He says the best decision he ever made was following Jesus. Ian sadly lost his wife of 48 years in February 2024 and says he wouldn’t have got through this very hard time without His Faith.  Ian has lots of experience in leading projects and ministries both here in the UK but also in Honduras where Ian, Julie and his children Loren and Casey served for many years working with people impacted by HIV. Ian’s children Loren and Casey are married to two great people, and they are all following Jesus he has 4 Grandchildren who he gets to spend lots of time with Him and are loved dearly.   Ian brings Godly wisdom and experience to the team and despite what he has been through is a constant source of encouragement to others.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits from 10am, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our band. We typically have 2 or 3 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years). Children under 6 months are welcome but must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • Livewires (3-7 years)
  • Encounter (7-11 years)
  • Katalyst (11-15 years)
  • Young people (15+ years) Stay in service.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy. Whilst you are dropping your kids off at their groups, we pause to take time to chat to someone sitting near or next to us, giving folk a chance to come back before the sermon begins.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
